What are the Annie Awards?

Annie Award
Annie Award

When I tell people I am the announcer for the Annie Awards, people usually say, “the what awards?” And I usually reply, “It’s the highest award for animation, like the Oscars are for movies.”  However; the Annie Awards are for all mediums of animation from film to television to video games to commercials and student films. Often the animated film that wins the Annie usually ends up taking home the Oscar. (Just keep that in mind when filling out your Oscar pool) Most people don’t know about the awards show because in the 40 years they’ve been awarding Annies, they have never been televised. It’s one of the best kept secrets in town. But don’t worry, if you’re not in LA or can’t get one of these hot tickets, the show is streaming, and last year’s show, hosted by Patton Oswald, was fabulous and incredibly funny. It’s not like any awards show you’ve seen on TV. Check out their website for this year’s nominees and more details. They haven’t announced who is hosting this year, but rumor has it, it’s going to be a great great show. I’ll keep you posted. Hey, just for fun, here are the nominees for Animated Feature. Who do YOU think will win?
